Yesterday, in the cool morning in California but a hot afternoon in New England, Parent Unions from across the nation called in to speak to dozens of listeners about why the Parent Trigger law is so important to creating Parent Unions in America. This historic meeting of like minded parents across the nation, hellbent on getting their kids a great education, was the first time that so many parent unions had been gathered in the same place at once to discuss how they had seen AFT’s secret plot to stop Parent Trigger in action, in their own cities and towns.

Throughout the call each representative, discussed their need for a Parent Trigger and why Parent Unions are needed everywhere. Our own Ben Austin laid out on the call (and as we have said for awhile), parents need a union to work together and make transformations to their kids schools that can change their children’s futures. And each of the groups on the call have been working in their own communities to make these unions a reality. Gwen Samuels of Connecticut Parents Union led listeners through the process in Connecticut where parents thought they had worked with their legislators towards a Parent Trigger only to find out later that their work had been undermined through backroom deals by powerful lobbyists in Hartford.

Already press has started rolling in about the call with Drop Out Nation writing about the meeting of like minds. (They were also the blog that revealed AFT’s secret PowerPoint) And it’s clear that the Parent Trigger and Parent Union ideas are growing and only gaining momentum. From a school in Compton, to schools throughout California and now parents in Buffalo, Texas and New York and numerous others beginning to fight for their school, its clear that parents will stand up for their children and that this is only just beginning.
