At Parent Revolution, we believe in the simple idea that every child should have the opportunity to fulfill their potential and pursue their dreams. We understand that we will never live in a society of equal opportunity. But we must also never accept a society where zipcode and income determine destiny. While the work we do focuses on kids-first education reform, the other major pillar of hope and opportunity for poor children and children of color is quality healthcare. Today's Supreme Court decision upholding President Obama's Affordable Care Act represents an historic step towards the day where all children will receive healthcare based on their medical needs, rather than on the profit motives of a greedy health insurance company. Today is a great day for anyone who believes in the American dream as a reality for children living in poverty, and not just tragic fairy tale of from a bygone era. We still have a long way to go to ensure that every child in American receives the healthcare and the public education they deserve. But days like this give us hope that the transformative change we seek is possible, and that together we can reinvent and re-imagine the American dream yet again for a new generation of parents and children.
