Do you know about the Texas Parent Empowerment Law?

In Texas there is a law called the Texas Parent Empowerment Law (Sec. 39.107), which allows parents of a majority of students at a failing school (those labeled “Unacceptable” for five consecutive years) to petition for enforceable change in their schools.

The law gives parents a seat at the table when

decisions are being made for their schools.

However, the current law is unusable for parents. Five years of failure is too long for parents to wait and so must be lowered. Also, the law does not provide any clarity on how parents can actually use this law. The legislature should make it so that parents can actually exercise a right given to them by the state.
